Project MotherHOOD with Amber Williams

I currently reside in my hometown, with my 12 year old son Brian. I work full-time for my parents which allows me the opportunity to manage and operate my own business @Circa81 Kids. A lifestyle company that specializes in Luxury children's Apparel and accessories.

In general we know Motherhood to be hard work, exhausting and yet very rewarding. How would you describe Motherhood in your own terms as it relates to the experience you want it be or have made it to be?

Motherhood in my eyes is an extension of my legacy.. Its also a choice that I made, so its my duty to show up everyday and make the right choices for my child not knowing if there the right ones. It also means taking care of myself so I can be the best parent to my son. Wooo... Its not a GAME!!

What expectations about Motherhood did you have that didn't pan out to be what you thought it would be? (Relationships, lifestyle, work related, etc.)

This motherhood journey of mine has been an interesting one. I started out the gate making life changing decisions which I don't regret. My child was diagnosed at 3 with delayed speech which was later discovered to be Autism. So my journey has been rewarding because no day is the same with him. I constantly struggle with the idea of traditional upbringing with him because we make it work. But it wasn't till he turned 8 that I realize that working in a corporate setting wasn't going to work for my family. So I told myself its time to get back to your dream of building Circa81 so here we are now. I traded in my LA city bags to be back in the Midwest where I had a huge support system.

What Momprenuer tips do you want to offer another Mom thinking about making the jump?

I say JUMP!!... but have a plan on how your going to make it work and GOD will provide the rest. Time management is important and you must remember that your in control of your time and how much you make.Last but not least SELF-CARE.. working out and me time will keep you sane!

When it comes to time management in my life 8 times out of 10 I'm always prepared and I try to carry my planner. My son is active in sports and also has a weekly speech therapy appointment that he has been going to since he was 3...so we're constantly on the move. I believe it's gotten easier over time because my child is older and I believe in teaching your child to be self-sufficient. Now that he rides the bus to school and back I have at least an hour more time in the morning for myself. An hour for me is equal to 5 hours of my time... But we make everything work and I adjust when needed.

How has Motherhood inspired you?

I knew at a very young age that I wanted to be a mother and an entrepreneur.. The older I get the more I look for ways to be even more present in my child life. So that means making sure my career allows me to.

What's your favorite beauty fix when you are feeling exhausted on the inside and on the go?

SLEEP and staying hydrated! Thats the number one thing in my life right now..

I can't live without my Mario Badescu facial spray ,Vitamin c oil for my face and my favorite Frame skinny leg jeans. I know you said item.. but I live for all three lol.

I travel alot and now that my son is older .. I'm heading out of the country alot more. But to be honest if I don't meditate, pray and workout at least four times a week I'm a mess. LITERALLY A mess!!!!

One of two: A note of compassion you want to offer a Mother reading this. Preferably something that might/could have been comforting to you at one point of time. OR Note to self.

I don't think people hear this enough... Take it one day at a time!! Because burn out is real..TRUST ME(been there in 2014)! and last but not least you can have it all but not all at once..

Thank you Amber!
